Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Attends Breakfast Meeting Hosted by British Conservative Party Parliamentary China Group

On June 22th, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming attended the breakfast meeting hosted by the British Conservative Parliamentary China Group at the British Houses of Parliament and delivered a speech entitled "Change and Continuity: China in the 21st Century". Also attending the meeting were Mr. Nick Hurd, Parliamentary Secretary of the Cabinet Office and Chairman of the Group and Mr. Shailesh Vara, Vice-Chairman of Group and other Conservative Members of Parliament.

In his speech Ambassador Liu briefed on the great changes in China in recent years and pointed out that China is developing rapidly, having ever closer ties with the rest of the world and increasingly involved in international affairs. However, what are unchanged are the nature of China as a developing country, its culture, traditions and values and its basic foreign policy. China will continue to follow a peaceful foreign policy and firmly pursue the path of peaceful development.

Ambassador Liu Delivering Speech 

Ambassador Liu pointed out that the Conservative Party have made important contributions to the China-UK relations and the new British government has demonstrated a commitment to the development of the bilateral relations. The China-UK relations are at a new starting point and faced with crucial opportunities for development. He hoped that the China Group would continue to pay attention to and support the development of the relations between the two countries and make new contributions to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between China and the UK.

Mr. Hurd thanked Ambassador Liu for attending the meeting and making a speech on behalf of the members of China Group and said that developing the UK-China relations has become a consensus of the entire British society, and that the Conservative Parliamentary China Group would continue its efforts to promote the mutual understanding and expand the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Liu also answered questions on RMB exchange rate, China-UK trade and economic cooperation, environmental protection, the Korean Peninsula situation and the Iranian nuclear issue.
